About SuperFly Autos™
We’re Tony and Carmen Matthews.
We’re a husband-and-wife team who move through the world led by curiosity, conversation, and time spent with people who build things their own way. We don’t arrive with checklists or expectations — we arrive to listen, to learn, and to see what’s really there.
SuperFly Autos™ grew out of that instinct to lead with an open ear and unity thinking in mind. Not as a plan, but as a way of staying close to the people, ideas, and cultures that felt honest and alive. Over the years, that curiosity has taken us into workshops and garages, down back roads, onto car parks, into personal kitchens and communal spaces and long conversations — sometimes without a shared language, but always with shared interests, passion and intent.
We’re not interested in surfaces alone. We care about the thinking behind what’s being created, the joy of using it, and the communities that form when people feel seen and taken seriously, in unity.
This space exists to reflect that way of moving through the world — open, attentive, and human.
Why We Do What We Do
Tony & Carmen Matthews
Because curiosity never left us.
It keeps leading us to people and ideas we don’t want to ignore, and we follow that pull without needing to know where it will end. We don’t chase outcomes or pretend to have all the answers — we’re simply interested, and we stay that way.
Sharing what we discover feels natural. It’s exciting to see where attention, care, and openness can lead — for others as much as for us.
CARMEN MATTHEWS

I notice things easily — often the things that don’t announce themselves, but stand out clearly to me. Small decisions, hesitations, the moments where someone isn’t sure yet if what they’ve made is worth standing behind. Those moments matter to me, because they’re usually where the truth sits. Creativity is worth encouragement wherever it is found.
Patience has always been part of how I move through the world. Not as a strategy, but as a way of making space — for people to settle, to trust, and to show what they really care about once the noise fades. I don’t rush that. I never have. Creativity needs time and space to grow — nurturing is what I focus on.
I’m drawn to people who quietly doubt themselves while doing something remarkable. Sometimes all that’s needed is attention, encouragement, or someone taking their work seriously before they do themselves. I try to offer that without pressure, without expectation. Photography, for me, isn’t about control or perfection, it is secondary to the human interaction itself. After all, what am I photographing if not for human creation? The focus of the lens shifts once you know where the heart of the creation is.
It’s about being present and letting things unfold as they are. Cars, workshops, kitchens, car parks — the setting doesn’t matter as much as the exchange. What stays with me is the human instinct to create, adapt, and express something personal, even when it feels vulnerable. It’s why I focus on capturing the human interaction, while Tony focuses on the object itself.
That way of seeing shapes how SuperFly Autos™ listens, looks, and shares stories from my side — gently, honestly, and with care.

I tend to listen more than I speak. I’m often taking things in quietly, working things through internally before they ever show up as decisions, layouts, or images. That’s how I’ve always been.
Being bilingual has shaped that way of moving more than people realise. Switching between languages — and cultures — early on taught me how much meaning lives between words. It’s helped me connect with people who might otherwise hesitate, and it’s often where trust begins, without it ever needing to be named.
When I’m working, I’m focused on structure and form. Design, layout, typography, and visual rhythm are where things start to make sense for me. I like to sit with ideas, turn them over, and craft them carefully — whether that’s a magazine layout, a logo, or the way a story is held together. There’s no automation in that process. Just time, attention, and getting it right.
Behind the camera, my focus shifts to the object itself — its lines, its stance, how it exists in space. I’m interested in understanding what’s been made and why, and in finding the angles that let it speak clearly. While Carmen is drawing out the human interaction, I’m usually listening from a step back, watching how everything fits together.
SuperFly Autos is where all of that comes together. It’s a place where instinct, structure, and curiosity meet — and where decisions are made carefully, with respect for the people and work involved.

How SuperFly Autos Works
SuperFly Autos™ is an independent editorial platform and magazine. We work by spending time with people, listening closely, and sharing what we learn in ways that feel considered and respectful.
Stories often begin long before they’re published. Sometimes they appear quickly, while the energy is fresh. Other times they surface later, once there’s space for reflection or context. We don’t rush that process, and we don’t treat timing as a race. The aim is always the same: to let the work travel as far as it can, in the right way, for the people involved.
Our publishing lives across print and digital — through our magazines, our website, and occasional moving image. We also continue to work with and contribute to other publications, exchanging stories and imagery where it makes sense. Commissioned work is always honoured for the publication it was created for first, and we don’t operate on exclusivity. Sharing responsibly benefits builders, scenes, and culture far more than keeping stories contained.
SuperFly Autos™ isn’t a garage, a brand exercise, or a content pipeline. It’s a way of paying attention — early, carefully, and with intent — and of creating space for people and communities to be seen on their own terms.
